Chief’s Message

During my time serving the people of Centerville, I have had the honor of working alongside some of the best trained and compassionate law enforcement officers. Our department includes 20 sworn officers and three support staff who work each day to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who live, work, and visit our city. We are grateful for the trust and support of our residents and diligently strive to maintain that trust through fair, compassionate enforcement of laws.

Since joining the Centerville Police Department in 2004, I’ve had the opportunity to work and serve in numerous positions. As I moved through the ranks, each role has strengthened my commitment to responsible leadership and led me to my current appointment as Chief.

Memorable and notable roles that have shaped my career include my time as a Resource Officer at Centerville Jr. High, Patrol Sergeant on the night shift, and Detective investigating burglaries and special victim cases. Most recently, during my time as Lieutenant, I worked closely with Chief Paul Child (Ret.) ensuring our officers had the equipment and support they needed to effectively protect and serve the community. This role led me to the next step as Chief. While being Chief has stretched me in every way possible, leading this department has become the most rewarding position yet.

Please be assured that I am always open to connecting and engaging with our residents and businesses. Whether you have a concern or questions about the safety of our community, I’m happy to discuss them with you. I have found that difficult conversations often lead to greater understanding and appreciation for other perspectives. If I, or any of our officers, can be of assistance at community events or functions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We love to connect and celebrate community life with our friends and neighbors.

To the entire City of Centerville, thank you for entrusting me to serve you. It is an honor I take seriously, and I remain committed to keeping our city a safe community to live and work in.

Chief Allen Ackerson
